Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency a.k.a. DARPA, these guys are leading the push… Government funded and well directed… Their current projects include “Machine reading” which would translate natural text into the information needed by computer cognitive systems for them to “learn” from what they read. Imagine if you put a learning machine on the internet… in about a week you’ve got one seriously confused over sexed(due to the massive amounts of porn) machine. Then Put that same machine in front of a Bible, Dictionary, Thesaurus, and Encyclopedia…. and you’ve got yourself a regular Genius!

memristorThe memristor! Yes, the fourth electrical component has been uncovered… only able to be produced on a nearly molecular scale, the memristor is holds every dream of the future that would otherwise be limited by the integrated … When Moore’s law finally breaks down, the memristor will be there… and with it, a new age and level of miniaturization. The applications for a memristor are completely compatible with that of any transistor based IC.

HP is already structuring plans to incorporate memristors into system memory (RAM), and then on into hard drives…  by simply replacing current RAM with memristor technology… you would have a computer that doesn’t boot… it just comes on like a light switch. By replacing hard drives with memristors you would then have a computer that requires zero load time…

What’s more interesting about memristors? They are analog. Which means they do more than simply hold an “on/off”. Memristors can hold a virtually infinite range of charge. Making them yet again more like a human brain. Put more simply, a Transistor sits there and says,”I’m 0″ or “I’m 1″. A memristor stands there and says alot of things “I’m 0″, “I’m 0.1″, “I’m 0.01″, “I’m 2″, “I’m 3,904″… you get the idea…

It’s new hardware… Memristors are better in every way than the previous hardware, Memristors are smaller, faster, more efficient and will replace IC’s when Moore’s Law finally breaks down… At that time a new law will be set in place… one with an even higher rate of exponential growth. This will be not a step, but a leap on the road toward the Technological Singularity.
